Sylvi Koso, M.D. has been caring for Mount Vernon patients at COES for 32 years. In addition to general eye care, she is experienced in cataract surgery, glaucoma care and treating a variety of eye conditions.
She earned her undergraduate degree at Ashland University and her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where she received the Ivan E. Shalit award for excellence in the care of patients. She completed her internship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland and her residency in ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in 1984. Annual continuing medical education and her experience provide the tools for excellent eye care for her patients. She is board certified in ophthalmology.
A native of Finland, Dr. Koso is mother to five children and currently has five grandchildren. In her free time she enjoys learning new languages, and has learned (and forgotten) how to say things in Swedish, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Arabic. She also enjoys mystery novels, and says, “Getting to the right diagnosis in a complex case and figuring out ‘whodunnit’ have a similar intrigue for me.”
